When I’m on vacation I typically relax pretty much any and all diet restrictions. No gluten? I’m glutenous! No dairy? I’m going to milk it instead! Less meat? Cheese dogs for midnight snacks after steak for dinner I say! It’s a special time and although I may pay the price it seems like a much smaller price when the surf of Negril’s seven mile beach wakes you up in the morning and a long day of sweating in the tropics purifies the body and the spirit.
After I get home I usually let my guard down for another week or so and I dive into all the things that I want to enjoy and get out of the way before I return to the mundane of my tunafish breakfasts, salad lunches and healthy simple dinners. Five Guy’s cheeseburger for lunch? Yes! New England clam chowder at Shaw’s? Why not make it a bowl instead of a cup! Filet Oscar style in the middle of a double shift on Tuesday? I deserve it!
Tonight I let my guard down one more time in the best possible way! I was thinking maybe a steak and twice baked potato at Wildfire? Perhaps an order of fried chicken carried out from my beloved Joe’s Stone Crab? Pasta with alfredo sauce at Scoozi or RPM? Not even a chance!
When it comes right down to it there is one delicacy that may exceed all of the above. I went to a hot yoga class after work. I did my shopping. I came home and cleaned the apartment and paid my bills. And then I called Pat’s on Clark Street!
Large thin crust with mozzarella and provolone cheese and pepperoni. There may be no finer indulgence on the planet! I have chosen well. Tomorrow back to sushi and salad, but tonight! Oh tonight will be special. My new bride That Redhead will either love me or hate me for this choice when she gets home at midnight to enjoy the leftovers. I think I know which it will be…
