Creeping Closer…

unnamed-10A little update on our impending move. It is all official now. We are so excited! We signed the lease on Monday last week and will get the keys to our new place sometime this Wednesday or Thursday. The wheels are turning and our lives just got a whole lot busier. Between wondering about jury duty in Michigan this week and trying to pack I expect that time will be even more precious than normal in the upcoming days.

But what a gift it is to have a destination in our future lives and a destination that will very well serve our next few years at least. Our new landlords are pretty much the perfect landlords. They have been kind and helpful and have even offered to be at our new place whenever needed to help with hook up of utilities or installation of cable TV if we can’t. They have identified themselves as “eco” people that hope we will be okay with gardening and a composter. We couldn’t have hoped for more.

It will be a huge change for sure. We will be in a neighborhood duplex on the second floor instead of on the 8th floor of a mid-rise. We will be on a tree lined street instead of an urban unnamed-11jungle of concrete. We will back up to a park on the North Branch of the Chicago River with a a bike path that leads all the way to Wilmette harbor instead of being a short walk from the lake by Museum Campus. We will be a short distance from L Woods in Lincolnwood and fried chicken instead of a cab ride from Hub 51 and Paris Club and sushi and crouque monsieur.

Change creeps closer and with change comes both uncertainty and excitement. I am so grateful for the opportunities that lie ahead and for all the support and love that so many of our friends and family have provided. I’m sure many posts are ahead when time allows. For now I’ll just keep creeping across the sand towards the new shell. More later…

About Jim Herbert

I've been wanting to write my whole life. By age 45 it had amounted to nothing more than a storage locker of half full journals and a lot of unfulfilled dreams. Then Paris in the fall of 2011 happened. It was the catalyst I needed to consistently blog. At first I had a hard time hitting the publish button, but now two blog sites and over 300 posts later I'm hitting my stride. I'm also a budding speech writer. I've recently been heavily involved in the Chicago Storytelling scene and have also won the Chicago Toastmasters Area 66 International Speech Contest. Check out our website at for more details about the amazing things that are happening in my life. A book or two are nearing completion. With another Paris trip on tap for Easter of 2015 I can only imagine that there are Infinite Possibilities on the horizon!!!
